The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) continues to be the preferred destination for IIT-JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) top rankers. Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) continues to be the most sought-after course at IITB.

Eight out of the top 10 candidates have chosen IITB since 2010. CSE has the maximum takers with 4,406 candidates giving it their first preference.

After the first allotment round of the IIT-JEE was released on Sunday, the organisers revealed the statistics which showed regular trends continuing over the years — IITB getting the best of the best.

Among the top 100 candidates, 77 chose IITB followed by IIT Delhi with 19, IIT Kanpur with 3 and IIT Madras with one. Among the top 1,000 candidates too, IITB stands to be the most preferred choice with 285 candidates.

On the IITB demand, AV Mahajan, chairman of IIT-JEE, Bombay zone, said: “The question would be best answered by students. However, we would like to believe that the syllabus, flexible curriculum and study patterns, exposure to extra-curricular activities could be some of the reason attracting students toward IITB.”
