HC seeks IIT-B help in metro ‘damage’ case

Posted on: December 23, 2010

MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Wednesday asked IIT Bombay to give alternate suggestions to arrive at a conclusion on what caused the alleged damage to a building in Andheri due to work on the metro line’s phase one. The court said this while hearing a review petition filed by Varshana Cooperative Housing Society.

An IIT professor, R S Jangid, who had come to court had suggested trying out vibro hammer on the building site, but Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) informed the court that the foundation work had been completed and the machine was decommissioned over two years ago. Monica Matani, member of the society and an original petitioner and advocate Simran Puri for the society expressed concern over the use of vibro hammer at this juncture. The judges too expressed a similar concern. Puri said the IIT report now ought to be conclusive and not tentative.
