IIT Bombay Techfest in January

PUNE: The 14th edition of the Techfest, the annual international science and technology festival of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, will be held at the institute’s campus from January 7 to 9, 2011.

More than 20 competitions are being organised this year, with a cumulative prize money of over Rs 15 lakh. Students from engineering and design schools from across the country and abroad are expected to participate.

A statement issued by the organising committee said that this year, competitions have been divided into major divisions, including ArchiTech events related to design and architecture, Autobots comprising events related to high-end robotics, Prayaas inviting ideas to shape a better future, Technopreneurship a concourse of technology and entrepreneurship and Kaspersky ISC a global competition to improve the level of security in IT.

The major attractions will be Full Throttle and Robo Wars. Also, this year, Techfest has introduced a technopreneurship competition, which will cater to next-generation technopreneurs. Apart from this, various competitions will be held based on architecture with focus on vertical habitats and citydrives, which require the participants to design a vertical habitat addressing the contemporary needs and changing socio-cultural trends and to conceptualise a traffic system to control the flow of vehicles, respectively.
